Bendy Friendies New Home on Discord

One thing I've learned in life: it's far better to recognize when something isn't working and address the barriers rather than pushing harder in an attempt to break through those barriers.

It's okay to find a way around the barrier instead of fighting against the feeling of resistance.

When I started Bendy Friendies on this site, I had envisioned something that was not able to come to fruition here as the site currently stands.

My site is the barrier.

For that reason, I made the decision to move the group to Discord. If you're in the group here on the site, you already know about this.

If you're not in the group on the site, I wanted to alert you to the move in case the new platform makes a difference in your decision to join.

Last, here is the 'what are we doing here' message that I've shared in the group:

Hi BFs!

I want to drop a quick note to let you know why I started this community.

I don't have anyone in person who can relate to my daily life experiences, and I know I'm not the only one.

Ultimately that's what this group is about: being there for each other for the day-to-day; talking about things that people in our lives don't really understand; and, maybe even having some fun?

Life is particularly hard and serious right now, but I think it's safe to say we also need a space for release, levity, and moments of joy. The reality is we're going to have to balance these to make it through the next few years.

So let’s do it, together.

Most importantly, I want this to be a space where you don't have to worry about things being intentionally presented through a lens of ableism and white supremacy culture - especially within health (mental & physical), fitness, and spirituality. And look, this lens is SO ingrained in how things are presented to ~us~ on a daily basis, there may be times where things slip in and we need it gently pointed it out. So let’s also hold each other accountable with the understanding that we’re all approaching things with good intensions.

Last, it’s important to me to pay my professionally-related knowledge forward. I’m not sure how this looks here yet, but we’ll figure out what works best and will be most helpful for everyone.

I’m looking forward to getting to know you, and I hope you get to know one another.

Who knows, maybe you’ll find a new BFF in BFs!

<3 Shauna

I hope I'll see you over there,
